Cefoperazone-sulbactam is a combination antibiotic medication used to treat various bacterial infections, particularly those caused by organisms resistant to other antibiotics. Cefoperazone is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic, while sulbactam is a beta-lactamase inhibitor. Together, they work synergistically to inhibit bacterial cell wall synthesis and counteract bacterial resistance mechanisms. This combination is effective against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, making it useful in treating infections such as respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and intra-abdominal infections. However, as with all antibiotics, cefoperazone-sulbactam should be used judiciously and only under the guidance of a healthcare professional to minimize the risk of antibiotic resistance and adverse effects.
