Finasteride is a medication commonly prescribed for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and male pattern baldness (androgenetic alopecia). It works by inhibiting the enzyme 5-alpha-reductase, which converts testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT).
